• Anna's Story

When Anna first signed up for Smiling for Smiddy, she thought she would be riding on bikes with baskets, now she is the newest Smiling for Smiddy team member who will be supporting the team as the Fundraising Co-ordinator. Originally from the Sunshine Coast, Anna comes from a not-for-profit background as a social worker and spent 12 years working overseas.
Anna first heard about Smiling for Smiddy when she accidently signed up for the 3-day Midi-Smiddy Challenge. “I thought there would be bikes with baskets, instead I had to go out and buy lycra,” Anna said. At the end of those three days she had fallen in love with Smiling for Smiddy and the rest as they say is history.
The second time Anna donned her lycra was in honour of a school friend who had cancer. This began an incredible journey between the two, who became close friends and Anna becoming the god-mother of her two children. Anna’s friend lost her battle with cancer in February this year, igniting Anna’s passion for Smiling for Smiddy even more.
Now Anna has joined the Smiddy team and she is still a passionate rider and will be participating in the Tassie Smiddy Challenge and doing her own personal fundraising, so keep an eye out for her!
Anna will be heading up the newest arm of Smiddy triathlons.  “I am really excited about SunSmart Ironman Western Australia as Smiling for Smiddy is the only charity partner,” Anna said. In October, Anna will also be launching a new event for TRI to Fight Cancer. “This will be specifically for triathlon ‘newbies’ that will include 6 weeks of coaching as a team prior to the event,” Anna said.
Anna is so passionate about the work of Smiling for Smiddy and we are so excited to have her on board. “I just love getting inspired by people every day, by talking to them, hearing their amazing stories and why they have become involved with the cause” Anna said.
